If you’re looking for a fresh new SUV for your Houston rides, you may have come across the Hyundai Tucson or Kona. These are both excellent choices with a wide variety of impressive specs and features, but only one will ultimately suit your driving needs and lifestyle. So, what’s the difference between the Hyundai Tucson and Kona? Although these are both compact SUVs, they feature different trim levels, pricing, engine options, and dimensions. The team at Baytown Hyundai has everything you need to know to make an informed decision in our Hyundai Tucson / Kona comparison guide below!
Price is often one of the most important aspects that drivers look at when choosing a new vehicle, and it’s one of the key differences between the Hyundai Tucson and Kona. Going on price alone, the Kona is the more affordable option, with each of its trims coming at a lower price than the corresponding Tucson trim. However, the Tucson has five available trim levels to the Kona’s four (the XRT trim is only available with the Tucson) and has upgraded performance specs and features to match its higher price level. You’ll have to decide which is more important to you, but to make it easier, we’ve listed the available trim levels and their price points below:

2022 Hyundai Kona:
When it comes to performance, the Tucson outmatches the Kona at the base-level trim with a 2.5L 4-cylinder engine, as befits its higher price. However, the Kona can be upgraded to an available turbocharged engine that ultimately delivers higher performance numbers than the Tucson. The Kona also gets better fuel economy numbers in both front-wheel-drive and all-wheel-drive configurations. Here are the full performance and efficiency specs:

If you’re stuck deciding between the Hyundai Tucson or Kona, you might want to look at the respective interior dimensions. In addition to price, SUV drivers often take the interior cargo and passenger space of a vehicle into major consideration when making a decision. While the Tucson and Kona offer similar dimensions for passenger’s head and legroom, the Tucson ultimately features a much larger cabin with nearly twice as much cargo volume and a good deal more passenger space. If you’re looking to maximize space for your passengers and cargo, then the Tucson is the way to go. However, if you prefer a compact frame to more easily maneuver around Pasadena, then you might prefer the smaller Kona.
Although the cabins are different sizes, both the Kona and Tucson feature a wide variety of overlapping interior features, including Hyundai SmartSense®, Android Auto™, Apple CarPlay®, center touchscreen display, BlueLink® Connected Car system, Proximity Key, power driver’s seat, and wireless charging capabilities.
